LITERATURE 344 / COMEDY & SATIRE
READINGS

One of the biggest problems with this course is that there is much more material than can fit into an eight week class. A lot has gone into the development of the American sense of humor, but there are subjects that are only touched on lightly (like SitComs and Romantic Comedies). So, in addition to the assigned readings, this list includes additional documents that provide information about many aspects of American comedy, humor, and satire.

The list also provides a resource for topics for the writing assignments. The articles provide different perspectives on comedy and satire.

And a few of the documents cover elements in the course like a list of common student mistakes, best practices, and some explanation concerning why Wikipedia is not considered a valid research source for college assignments.

[Note that most of these documents are in MS-WORD.]
