Who's Who in American Comedy

Buddy Hackett

Known for his thick New York accent which he delivered out of the side of his mouth, Buddy began as a comic on the "Borscht Belt" (resorts in the Catskills catering to jews). From there he got a job in a Broadway show called Lunatics and Lovers and was seen by a producer who put him on some TV specials and ultimately created a sit-com for him titled Stanley. He later starred in films like It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Worldand The Music Man. He was also the hippie auto mechanic Tennessee Steinmetz in Disney's The Love Bug. He appeared often on the Ed Sulivan Show delivering his famous 'Chinese Waiter routine. Here he is in a clip from The Dean Martin Show.
