Who's Who in American Comedy

Milton Berle

"Uncle Miltie" as he was known during the time of his TV success, was the first major star of television. Like many of the comics who wound up in television, he got his start in vaudeville, moved to radio and movies, and then to TV. His TV show began on radio as "The Texaco Star Theatre" and he is credited with the rise in television sales. This clip is from the film "Always Leave Them Laughing." He does a parody of Al Jolsen (who performed in blackface.)
