Known for his 'laugh-along' response to his humor and as the first host of The Tonight Show, Allen was a multi-talented comic, composer, jazz musician, and author. He began as host of a nightly comedy show called "Smile Time." He then moved to New York where he was given his own Sunday night comedy show which included the 'Mani in the Street' skit which introduced Louis Nye, Tom Poston, Bill Dana and Don Knotts to the public. He later hosted a number of game shows.
