Word processors have wreaked havoc with the normally judicious use of emphasis techniques. Tools like italics and bold face used to be reserved for typesetters. Now anyone can use them. Furthermore, anyone can change type faces and point sizes. You can shout at us or talk talk in a whisper. The problem is that the overuse of these options reduces their impact. When you emphasize everything, you have emphasized nothing. "So...what's yer point, Dr. Write!>" Just this. Be very, very careful about using any of the emphasis techniques: italics, bold face, underling, and different type faces and point sizes.
